Back-End Team Lead

Smart Host is a B2B SaaS platform in the hospitality industry. We empower hotels to put their own data to work. We collect, clean and enrich guest data from both internal and external data sources. All of this combined with data analysis takes guest communication and marketing efforts to a new level. Our typical clients are not necessarily tech savvy, so it’s on us to skyrocket them into the digital marketing age, by simplifying the experience to the maximum through great usability.

As senior Back-end engineer you’ll be part of an amazing team responsible for our hospitality software solution.

Aufgaben

As our Backend Team Lead, you will head the engineering efforts behind our core hospitality solution. You will balance hands-on development with technical leadership, ensuring our architecture scales as fast as our customer base. You aren't just managing people; you are the guardian of code quality and the architect of our cloud infrastructure.

Your tasks in a nutshell:

• Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of high-performing backend engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, transparency, and continuous learning.
• Architectural Vision: Own the development of our web-app backend and its non-trivial business logic, ensuring the system is built for scale and resilience.
• DevOps Ownership: Take full responsibility for your team's code and the cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes/Cloud) it runs on.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Frontend Leads and Product Designers to design efficient APIs and deliver a flawless user experience.
• Fight Complexity: Lead the charge against emerging technical debt by rethinking systems from the ground up when necessary.
• Strategic Growth: Assist in hiring, technical interviewing, and refining our engineering roadmap to align with business goals.

Qualifikation

• Java Expert: You are proficient in Java (keeping pace with the latest versions) and have a deep understanding of the Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Cloud Native: You have experience with Kubernetes and are familiar with modern tooling (e.g., Helm, Terraform, Gradle).
• Systems Thinker: You understand the fundamentals of networking, distributed computing, and asynchronous messaging
• Root Cause Navigator: You don't shift responsibility; you dig deep into the stack to find and fix the source of a problem.
• Leadership Mindset: You have experience (or a strong desire) in leading people, conducting code reviews, sharing knowledge and developing your team and its perfromance.
• Pragmatic Engineer: You care about clean code and refactoring but understand the balance between perfection and time-to-market in a startup.
• Fluency in English: You are able to communicate fluently in English, verbally as well as in written. German skills are an advantage.
• Entitlement to work in Germany: You are leaglly entitled to work freely within the European Union and you do not require a visa sponsorship.
